Sen. Feinstein Has Kind Words for Nanotech Group

Sen. Feinstein Commends NanoBioNexus: NanoBioNexus, a regional nonprofit trade group for nanotechnology, held Reach for the Stars, its second annual gala, this month.

U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., sent a representative to the event, held at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies on July 11.

“Nanotechnology is opening new doors and offering hope to thousands of patients diagnosed with cancer daily,” Feinstein wrote in a letter to NanoBioNexus. “… NanoBioNexus is leading the way in NanoBiotech education.”

Adriana Vela founded NanoBioNexus in 2004, and last year, the National Cancer Institute granted the organization $700,000 to co-lead the educational component of the Center for Cancer Nanotechnology Excellence at UC San Diego.

Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Approves Bill to Extend Sale of Breast Cancer Research Stamp

Washington, DC – The U.S. Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee today approved legislation sponsored by Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) to extend the sale of the highly successful Breast Cancer Research Stamp for two additional years beyond the current expiration date of December 31, 2007. The next step is a vote on the Senate floor.

Since the stamp first went on sale in 1998, the U.S. Postal Service has sold more than 777.7 million stamps, raising $56.08 million for breast cancer research. The stamp marked nine consecutive years of sale this past Sunday, July 29.
